# The complete human genome

- kind: problem
- status: solved (evidence tier V3)
- year: 1990

**Statement.** What is the full sequence of a human genome?

The 2003 reference left about 8% unsequenced, mostly repetitive regions. Long-read sequencing let the T2T consortium finish the first truly complete sequence in 2022, nearly twenty years after the first was declared done.

*Evidence tier V3 is the import default for a result the curation records as settled in the published record. No formal proof or certificate is attached to this page yet.*

Closed 2003 draft, Human Genome Project; 2022 gapless, Telomere-to-Telomere consortium.
