# A malaria vaccine

- kind: problem
- status: partial
- year: 1967

**Statement.** Can a vaccine prevent malaria at high efficacy?

Parasites are far harder to vaccinate against than viruses. The first two recommended vaccines cut clinical cases substantially in young children, with R21 showing about 75% efficacy in trials. Durable, high protection for everyone remains the goal.

Closed 2021 RTS,S and 2023 R21 recommended by WHO.
